The Zoom Assistant
This section provides an overview of the Zoom Assistant’s core functionality.
The Zoom Assistant is a compact, dockable widget that provides users with access to core Zoom Phone features from virtually anywhere on their desktop
The Zoom Assistant offers Zoom Phone Pro and Power Pack users substantial workflow flexibility when working from a computer. Under typical circumstances, users without the Zoom Assistant or another integrated application are required to always open the Zoom desktop client to perform a variety of call-related functions, like making an outbound call or initiating a recording. Alternatively, users with the Zoom Assistant have a compact, dockable widget overlay that allows them to perform the following tasks from virtually anywhere on their desktop, regardless of which applications are open:

The Zoom Assistant is an extension of the Zoom desktop client, not an additional application or integration
The Zoom Assistant is included within the Zoom desktop client’s installation file and does not require any integrations or supplemental packages. However, users cannot use the Zoom Assistant until it is enabled in the appropriate locations. Once enabled, users can begin using the feature immediately.
The Zoom desktop client must be running in the background to use the Zoom Assistant
The Zoom Assistant functions as an extension of the Zoom desktop client, requiring the Zoom client to run in the background to access and use the widget. It's important to note that the Zoom desktop client interface does not need to be open; however, the essential processes of the application must be running.
The Zoom Assistant can float on your desktop or dock to either side of your screen
You can choose to leave the Zoom Assistant floating on the desktop, or dock the widget by dragging it to the desired side of their screen, offering flexible workflows depending on your needs.

The Zoom Assistant hides away unless you’re in an active call
While the Zoom Assistant is enabled on the Zoom desktop client, the widget defaults to docked on your desktop unless you are in an active call or move it to float on the desktop.
For instance, if the Zoom Assistant widget isn’t active with a call, the Zoom Assistant will tuck itself away in docked mode. When you are in an active call, the Zoom Assistant floats up on the desktop and will maintain visual priority, even if you are working in other applications. You can dock it away manually while in an active call, but you will have to undock it in order to use the features available on the Zoom Assistant widget. Once the call is ended, the Zoom Assistant will dock itself away. If you have moved the Zoom Assistant, you will have to manually dock it.
While docked, the widget extends slightly inwards and automatically extends when interacted with, or when a call is active
While docked, the Zoom Assistant extends slightly inwards to enhance visibility, featuring colored ribbon indicators. The following images illustrate the visible differences between an inactive, docked widget and when there is an active call or the widget is being interacted with.

The Zoom Assistant works with Zoom’s in-app integration for Microsoft Teams and can simplify Zoom Phone user workflows
For Zoom Phone users, the Zoom Assistant is an excellent companion to Zoom’s in-app integration for Microsoft Teams. With the Zoom Assistant, Zoom Phone users can perform most phone functions within the widget, bypassing the need to open the integration within the Teams client, or open the Zoom desktop client in most scenarios. Further, because the widget is always available on the desktop, users have workflow flexibility, regardless of which program they are operating in.
Users can accomplish most common tasks between the Zoom Assistant and Zoom’s in-app integration for Microsoft Teams
For accounts who combine Zoom’s in-app integration for Microsoft Teams with the Zoom Assistant, users only require opening the Zoom desktop client (i.e. the full Zoom client interface) for a limited set of tasks, most typically limited to joining Zoom Meetings. Readers are encouraged to revisit the capabilities of both the Teams integration and Zoom Assistant to help ensure these integrations can support their user’s common workflows.
