Common Integration Scenarios

Within an organization, the equipment and infrastructure utilized for H.323/SIP video conferencing can vary greatly and may include a wide range of call setup or management devices such as Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Cisco VCS/Expressway, or Poly Clarity—just to name a few. Other organizations may simply have H.323/SIP video conferencing devices and no call setup, calendaring, or device management infrastructure. When integrating with Conference Room Connector (CRC), organizations may be able to migrate away from their on-premises infrastructure entirely or combine the operations of their infrastructure with CRC.

This section will describe some of the common scenarios that take place when an organization integrates its H.323/SIP video conferencing devices or infrastructure with Conference Room Connector (CRC).

Initial Steps

The following steps are recommended for all organizations, whether you are partially or fully integrating with Conference Room Connector.

  1. Evaluate if your organization will be using CRC gateway only to connect to Zoom Meetings and Webinars, or if you plan to use additional CRC features such as device management, calendar integration, and SIP proxy.

  2. Confirm that your Zoom account is eligible and that your H.323/SIP video conferencing devices are supported for CRC gateway dialing and also supported as Zoom-managed devices to utilize additional CRC features.

  3. Purchase CRC subscriptions by considering the number of devices that may be connected to Zoom Meetings simultaneously.

Organizations with H.323/SIP video conferencing devices and no infrastructure can integrate with all Conference Room Connector features

Organizations with supported H.323/SIP video conferencing devices and no management, call control, or calendaring infrastructure can join Zoom Meetings through the CRC gateway and provision their devices as Managed Devices in the web portal to utilize additional applicable Conference Room Connector features. See our recommended steps regarding full integration with CRC.

Retire on-premises H.323/SIP video conferencing infrastructure by integrating with all Conference Room Connector features

With the CRC gateway and additional CRC features including device management, calendar integration, and SIP proxy registration, you may be able to migrate fully to CRC and retire on-premises H.323/SIP management infrastructure; alleviating maintenance and subscription costs for the on-premises equipment. See the following recommended steps for full integration with CRC.

  1. Review the initial steps for activating and utilizing CRC to confirm that your H.323/SIP devices are supported and that your Zoom account is eligible and licensed.

  2. Deploy the Enhanced API Connector to manage your H.323/SIP devices in Zoom.

  3. Provision your H.323/SIP devices as Managed Devices in the Zoom web portal.

  4. Create calendar resources and add them to your H.323/SIP devices.

  5. Set the SIP call control registration setting to Register to Zoom in the Cisco/Polycom Rooms device management section of the Zoom web portal to register to the SIP proxy.

Combine on-premises infrastructure with Conference Room Connector to augment your organization’s H.323/SIP video conferencing operations

Some organizations may have highly integrated on-premises call control infrastructure for their phones and H.323/SIP video conferencing devices that they do not wish to decommission. A partial integration with Conference Room Connector (CRC) can be performed to enhance functionalities between the customer-owned call control and CRC calendar integration. See the recommended steps for partial integration.

Combine cloud-based infrastructure with Conference Room Connector to help augment your organization’s H.323/SIP video conferencing operations

Similar to on-premises infrastructure, a partial integration with Conference Room Connector (CRC) will allow you to utilize CRC device management and calendar integration while keeping your call control/SIP proxy registration with a cloud-based solution such as Webex Cloud or other third-party providers. Please see the recommended steps for partial integration of H.323/SIP video conferencing devices to CRC.

The following steps are recommended for partially integrating your H.323/SIP video conferencing device with Conference Room Connector (CRC), allowing you to join Zoom Meetings and use the CRC calendar integration features while call control/SIP proxy functions remain with your existing on-premises or cloud-based infrastructure.

  1. Review the initial steps for activating and utilizing CRC to confirm that your SIP/H.232 video conferencing devices are supported and that your Zoom account is eligible and licensed.

  2. Deploy the Enhanced API Connector to manage your H.323/SIP devices on the Zoom platform

  3. Provision your H.323/SIP devices as Managed Devices in the Zoom web portal.

  4. Create calendar resources and add them to your H.323/SIP devices

  5. Set the SIP call control registration setting to Not provisioned by Zoom in the Cisco/Polycom Rooms device management section of the Zoom web portal.
