# Managing and Organizing Contacts

The sections below will guide you through different functions that allow you to manage the contacts you’ve added.

### <mark style="color:blue;">Star a Contact</mark>

Starring a contact will add them to the **Starred** section of the Chat panel, providing quick access to the contact or chat channel. To star a contact:

1. Sign in to the Zoom Workplace desktop app.
2. Use the search bar to search for the contact.
3. Click the contact’s name to display the chat thread with that contact.
4. To the left of the contact’s name, select the star icon.

The contact will appear in the **Starred** section under the **Phone**, **Chat**, and **Contacts** tabs. You can also star chat groups and channels. If you have a Zoom Phone license, you can star contacts through your call history.

### <mark style="color:blue;">VIP Delegation</mark>

If your admin enabled delegation for your account and you have a Power Pack license, you can set up VIP Delegation to allow only users on your VIP list to contact you by phone. This is useful if you are an executive who doesn’t want to be accessible to everyone unless you have explicitly allowed it. Please refer to the [Using VIP Delegation](https://support.zoom.com/hc/en/article?id=zm_kb\&sysparm_article=KB0057675) support article for more information.

### <mark style="color:blue;">Block a Contact</mark>

Blocking a contact will prevent them from chatting with you, and if not already a contact, will also prevent them from sending you a contact request.

To block a contact using search:

1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop app.
2. Use the search bar to search for the contact.
3. Click the contact's name to display the chat thread with that contact.
4. In the top-right corner, click **More Actions**.
5. Click the **More Options** section and click **Block Contact**.
6. Confirm blocking by clicking **Block**. The contact will now show a blocked label next to their name.

To block a contact using the contacts directory:

1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop app.
2. Click the **Contacts** tab.
3. Find the contact you want to block.
4. While hovering the cursor over their name in the list, click the ellipsis icon ![](data:image/png;base64,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) beside the contact's name.
5. Click **Block Contact**.
6. Confirm blocking by clicking **Block**. The contact will now show a blocked label next to their name.

{% hint style="info" %}
You can unblock a contact by following the steps used to block them, but by selecting Unblock Contact, which replaces the Block Contact option.
{% endhint %}

### <mark style="color:blue;">Delete a Contact</mark>

Deleting a contact will prevent them from being able to continue chatting with you, but unless blocked, they can request to be a contact again.

1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop app.
2. Click the **Contacts** tab.
3. Find the contact you want to delete.
4. While hovering the cursor over their name in the list, click the ellipsis icon ![](data:image/png;base64,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) beside the contact's name.
5. Click **Delete Contact**.
6. Confirm deletion by clicking **Delete**.

### <mark style="color:blue;">How to Prevent and Fix Duplicate Contacts</mark>

Because of the flexible nature of adding contacts, sometimes information gets duplicated. For example, if you add a contact to your Personal Contacts and the contact already exists in your integrated Cloud Contacts, you will create a duplicate of that contact even if the name, email, and phone number are the same.

To prevent duplicate contacts, ensure that you are adding any single contact using only one method described in this document. If you ever need to remove a duplicate contact, follow the steps to **Delete a Contact** as described in the section above.
